Derya Yildirim is a young experimental musician based in Hamburg. Derya plays various instruments, combining Turkish folk with modern psychedelic rock, jazz and funk elements. She plays the Turkish lutes bağlama and oud in several projects including the international Turkish Anatolian band ‘Grup Şimşek’. Their modern grooves, with hints of psychedelia are infused with Derya’s bağlama and folk singing. Derya studied music at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. She learned piano under Tinatin Gambashidze and in 2016 she continued her studies with Turkish lute bağlama under Taner Akyol at Berlin University of the Arts.
Derya will perform at St. Elisabeth Kirche on Thursday, November 9th, 2017.
