Sonja Matuszczyk is a freelance music journalist and culture critic, writing regularly for SPEX and GROOVE and having her work published in The Quietus, Norient, and hhv among others. In 2008 she moved to Berlin for a degree in literature, art history and philosophy, before she shifted her focus onto the fringes of pop culture, particularly the marginalisation and gross mis-representation of female and non-binary voices in the music industry. “Everything that a guy says once, you have to say five times”, Björk once said. And ever since Sonja started writing on pop and feminism, it’s a sentence still ringing true on a daily basis. Which is why she won’t grow tired of using her work as a battleground against and the subversion of the grievances of that – and any other – industry.
Sonja will be a panellist in Is This Enough? Music Media + Gender Justice at Elisabeth Studios on Thursday, November 9th, 2017.
